I Thought Love Was “Fighting,” Until I Learned the Power of “Stillness”

Community Voices: A Letter from Moli

Dear Friends at Tao Zenith,

This is my first time gathering the courage to write to you. I’m writing because I have finally cured my “Relationship Anxiety.”

1. The Detective: Losing Myself in the Chase

This time last year, I was trapped in a draining relationship. He was hot and cold. My daily mood depended entirely on how fast he replied to my texts. I became a detective, over-analyzing every social media post, wondering why he hadn’t spoken to me for three hours. I thought that if I were just more understanding and tried harder to provide “emotional value,” I could prove that I was worth loving.

The result? As you might guess, sand slips through your fingers faster the tighter you squeeze. I suffered from insomnia and breakouts, and I was filled with resentment. In the end, he cut ties with a casual “personality mismatch.”

2. The Shift: Nourishing "Qi" Instead of Chasing Love

That month was miserable. I sought answers everywhere, from tarot to astrology. Finally, through a deep conversation with your community, I realized the truth: I had pinned all my happiness on someone else, but I had no “Life Force” (Qi) of my own.

So, I tried a new approach: “Inward Cultivation.”

Mindset: Practicing "Wu Wei" (Non-Forcing)

I stopped trying to control the outcome. I recited a mantra daily: “If fate comes, I don’t reject; if fate goes, I don’t stay.” This wasn’t giving up; it was reclaiming control over my emotions. I stopped stalking his social media. I told myself: “Flowers bloom in their own time; you don’t need to pry open the petals.”

Lifestyle: Rebuilding Order

I started living by the Solar Terms. On the day of Awakening of Insects (Jingzhe), I cooked pear soup. On Pure Brightness (Qingming), I walked in the park. I started lighting incense. Watching the smoke rise, my heart quieted down. I discovered something magical: When I shifted my focus from “Does he love me?” to “Is this tea fragrant?”, my anxiety vanished.

3. The Water Wisdom: "I Don't Hit the Rock; I Flow."

The real magic happened two months ago. At an art exhibition (a place I never had the patience for before), I met my current boyfriend. He is gentle and speaks slowly. Later, he told me that when he saw me that day, I had a “Settled Aura” (Ding) that made him want to be near me.

If it were the old me, I would have rushed to define the relationship. But this time, I practiced “Guarding the Stillness.” We drank tea slowly, dated in an “old-school” way, and I didn’t demand promises. I just enjoyed the resonance of the moment. Surprisingly, the relationship blossomed naturally.

4. Conclusion: Be Like Water

Now I understand what Taoism means by “Softness overcomes Hardness.” It doesn’t mean being a doormat. It means possessing the Wisdom of Water:

I do not crash into the rock; I simply flow around it. If you wish to flow with me, we merge into the river. If you block me, I bypass you. Either way, I will reach the ocean.

In this fast-paced year of the Fire Horse (2026), I want to share this with anyone feeling lost in love: Slow down and look inward. Learn to love yourself first, and the right person will meet you there.

Wishing you all a year of freedom and quiet joy.

— Moli (Jasmine), who finally learned to love herself.
